As I am about to begin the training for my tenth marathon, I can’t help but reflect on all the support you have given me through the years while # running4phil and for this, I feel the most heartfelt gratitude.
While #running4phil and trying to save myself, I also thought and worried about Marko and what impact our heartbreaking loss will leave on him, then only fourteen years old. Neither Antonio or myself could always be “present” even though we always tried the best we could. We owe enormous gratitude to those friends in our lives that were there for us and helping us so Marko can become who he is today.
I know that Philip is looking down and is so proud of Marko as Antonio and I are, and that’s why I want to dedicate my tenth marathon to him. I chose this marathon because it is challenging and hard as I believe Marko’s life journey was for the past eight years without his brother.
On April 26, 2020, I will run the Big Sur marathon with my biggest supporter, my husband Antonio on the road cheering and ringing that oh so loud bell. Then, a week later we will drive up to Boston to celebrate Marko’s college graduation at Northeastern University. It truly will be Big Sur to Boston!
As with all previous marathons, #running4phil would not be complete if I don’t share my efforts and make a connection with a cause dear to us all.
Julia’s Butterfly Foundation (JBF) is a volunteer, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of terminally and chronically ill children and their families. The foundation honors the memory of six-year-old Julia Marie Bommer, who passed away in 2005 following her brave battle against a rare kidney disorder. It is the foundation’s goal to pay tribute to the life of this amazing child by helping other children and their families struggling with the demands of their unique circumstances.
As always, I need your support. Whether you donate $5 or $500 you will be part of this effort to help those families to ease their burden while going through such a difficult time.
I sincerely and humbly thank you for your kindness.
