Thank you to everyone who has supported Pillows for Patients.
We officially launched the Pillows for Patients program with the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute (AHNCI) and began distributing pillows to patients!
To date, over $7,000 has been raised thanks to the support of our community members, friends and family. Additionally, we have received great publicity with media partners, and most recently, I completed an interview on the iHeart Radio AHN podcast – “I Had Cancer”, hosted by breast cancer survivor and AHN patient, Bonnie Diver.
In an effort to continue our goal of providing an Axillapilla® by Masthead® to every breast cancer patient undergoing some type of mastectomy at AHNCI, I ask for your continued support.
You can support the Pillows for Patients Program by donating on this site today, and/or you join us at our inaugural Night at the Mansion, on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Twelve Oaks Mansion. We will have entertainment, live and silent auctions and wonderful Hors D’oeuvres and beverages.
My goal is to raise $30,000 through this event.

My story is below:
My name is Shelby Petonak, I am a senior at Pine-Richland High School and am proudly partnering with AHN to fundraise for the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute (AHNCI) Pillows for Patients Program to support Breast Cancer Survivors.
My goal is to give a pillow to every AHN breast cancer patient who recently had a mastectomy to help in their recovery.
The Sunday day before Labor Day 2017, my mom was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and the diagnosis rocked our tight-knit family.
Between my dad, siblings, the Pine-Richland cheerleading families, and the doctors and nurses at AHN, my mom had a reliable support team to help her recover. But one object helped to support her physically after surgery: a heart-shaped pillow designed especially for mastectomy patients.
The Axillapilla® by Masthead® comfortably supports the axilla (underarm) and other sensitive areas post-surgery and helps to relieve underarm pressure so breast cancer survivors can relax their arms without pain or wear a seatbelt comfortably during a long car ride.
These pillows are something functional that patients can actually use and make the whole process a little easier, and a little more comforting.
To date, with the support of my family, friends, school and community, we have raised over $7,000. But I don’t want to stop there.
