I am running The Cleveland Marathon on May 15, 2016 in honor of my mother, Christine Backo. For those of you who know my mother, you know that she deserves a lifetime of marathon fundraisers in honor of her.
For those of you who don't, here's the synopsis: my mom has had stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer for the last 12 years, over half of my life. Because of the severity of this stage of cancer, she'll never be in remission. She will live everyday for the rest of her life with this disease, and if I know my mother, she will never complain, never give up, and never have a bad attitude about having cancer. I decided to run my first marathon for an organization that has helped her have this positive attitude for the last 12 years. If she had the capabilities to fundraise for any organization, I know she would choose The Gathering Place. The Gathering Place offers free programs and services to those touched by cancer.
