We the House Ball Community (HBC), in partnership with the Hetrick Martin Institute, have created this page because we want to create sustainable social change through direct action organizing and radical leadership that builds political power. The House Lives Matter (HLM) movement seeks to build power so we can tell our stories, champion our communities, advance social justice and influence systemic change through multidisciplinary artistic expression, direct action community organizing and policy critique. HLM offers a pedagogical invitation that counters the historically ineffective methodologies used to address issues confronting the HBC and other marginalized people. It is a concept “consciousness,” the ways in which individuals and communities develop a critical understanding of their social reality through reflection and action. This involves examining, engaging, and acting on the root causes of oppression as experienced in the present moment. Mobilizing those around the country and the world through a human rights and social justice lens provides larger opportunities to unify around an advocacy agenda that by region can assist HBC members with creating change in their local areas. Please help us by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button. The more people that know about HLM, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing this page with your friends, family, colleagues and contacts. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
