Gray Friday for the Manatees
I know that many share my concern and love for the manatee. All year long I donate 10% of the proceeds from my vintage fashion business (denisebrain.com) to Save the Manatee Club, but right now I mean to step it up! You've heard of Black Friday? Well, this fundraiser is called Gray Friday! Between now and Giving Teesday (Save the Manatee Club's version of Giving Tuesday), 50% of my denisebrain sales will go to SMC, along with 100% of donations to this page. My goal is to raise $400, and with your help, I know this is possible.
The West Indian (Florida) Manatee was once plentiful around the coast of Florida, but now its survival as a species is in jeopardy. Humans are the gentle herbivores’ only "enemy," with our fishing lines ensnaring them, our pollution poisoning them, our boats striking them and our living space encroaching upon theirs. Heather Sellick of the US Scuba Center wrote: “the manatee is one of the most magnificent marine mammals...it is also the one that tugs at our heartstrings and reminds us of the great damage humans have inflicted on the creatures with whom we share this planet.” According to Florida Fish and Wildlife records, the death toll for manatees in 2018 so far is 741, particularly high due to a massive red tide bloom.
Manatees are awesomely large, perfectly gentle, intelligent creatures. How could anything so wonderful be at risk of extinction?
Please help me help this iconic species!
