In 2019, after 4 years of college life, I weighed in at approximately 182 pounds. I was overweight and out of shape. It was time for change. I improved my eating habits and even joined a gym, and in 3 months I lost 30 pounds. I felt empowered by getting back on track to being healthy!
During college I was an intern at Ridgway State Park. I was fortunate enough to be hired on as a seasonal ranger after graduation. In my time at the park I was exposed to many sides of law enforcement and I worked with so many amazing officers. I got to see firsthand the sacrifice each officer makes by putting on their badge. In June of 2019 I was asked to shroud my badge in honor of a state patrol officer who was killed in action responding to an accident. I wanted to do so much more to show my respect and offer support to this officer’s family.
After my seasonal position at the park came to an end, my fitness journey was in full swing. I was still trying to figure out how I could support the amazing men and women in law enforcement. I was introduced to the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation.
“The mission of the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation is to support public safety employees, their families, and organizations by providing support and resources. Through the efforts of committed leadership, partnerships and staff, we work to ease the times of unexpected hardship, supporting seriously injured or fallen officers and their families, furthering their higher education, engaging and developing new programs to support and recognize these employees’ commitment to public safety, and by providing the general public with information, education, technology and other means necessary to promote a safer transportation system within which we all operate.”
Fast forward to December 2019. I took up running. Let me be clear, I hate running – it’s my least favorite thing to do. However, it has become my vehicle to make a difference. I can help these families in need - I will run! I will be participating in running events ranging from 5K’s to marathons with the goal of raising $10,000 for this amazing organization. If I can reach my goal of $10,000 before the start of 2021 I will compete in an Iron Man competition consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile run, raced in that order in the same day. Please help me to help the families of our fallen hero’s!
Every dollar donated is tax deductible! This is a Win-Win!!
