New Zealand ultra-distance runner, Kim Allan, achieved a women's World Record by running a circuit in the Auckland Domain without sleep, covering 500 kilometres in 86 hours 11 minutes and 5 seconds. She ran non-stop from 6am on December 19th through to Sunday 22nd.
Kim has made the New Zealand Spinal Trust the beneficiary of all funds raised during the record attempt. The Trust is a registered charity which supports Kiwis with spinal cord impairments (from accident or illness) to get back on track and live life to the full.
Kim's offer to raise funds came after she learned that Claire Donachie, whom she worked with at the Counties Racecourse in Pukekohe, sustained a spinal injury after falling from a race horse and now uses a wheelchair. They have since become friends.
