RIDE COMPLETED IN OCTOBER. Allie has completed treatment and is doing well (see October 17th posts and earlier). [19/6/17] This trip has been brewing for a while, but it isn't just for me... it is for my sister Allie, who is in treatment for breast cancer, and in support of the great work the Cancer Society does in New Zealand.
Looking for a challenge to include in up-coming travels, I'll be returning to South America to cycle the reputed highest cyclable road in the world, which finishes just below 5,800m on Cerro Uturuncu (aka Uturunku or Uturunco) in Bolivia. Not an easy trip, but fighting cancer is a tougher journey.
I'll be undertaking the ride over an anticipated 3 weeks (hopefully also incorporating the salt flats) about mid-September.
The main challenges are going to be dealing with the altitude, cold conditions and strong headwinds, among others.
You've read this far, so I hope you'll now contribute some money to a great organisation for them to be able to continue to do what they do.
On behalf of Allie and myself, thank you very much/hartelijk bedankt!
