This event has been set up to celebrate me coming to the end of my journey with Cancer.
On the 19th of January, 2017, I was told that I had Rectal Cancer. A treatment plan was made and I found myself in Palmeston North doing Radiation and chemotherapy, then an operation to remove the growth.
I went in for the Operation to be brought out and told that there was nothing to be done because the cancer had spread. BUT Thank goodness, the samples that were sent away after the operation showed instead of Rectal cancer I had ovarian and that there was something the medical professionals could do.
A new treatment plan was made.
This included chemotherapy and another operation, ending with more chemo.
My last chemo treatment was on the 22nd of December, 2017.
Since then, I have welcomed 2 new Grandchildren into the world, traveled overseas twice and just recently returned to work full time as a teacher at Camberley School, Hastings.
To celebrate this, I am going to be doing 5x 20km bike rides with the USO bike riders in Hastings. 90% of the funds raised will go to the Hastings Cancer Society and 10% will go to Camberley Primary School.
A super exciting thing that has come out of my journey is now our DHB have changed their procedures regarding women who present with certain symptoms of Rectal cancer. Further screening will be done to check if they have Ovarian cancer.
They did this extra screening for the 1st time 4 weeks ago.
I will keep you all updated on here or my "everyday hero " page.
Rides will also be posted on here.
So come join me.
