Having taught in a low decile school previously, I've witnessed children arrive at school without the bare necessities of shoes, weather appropriate clothing, a school bag and some having not eaten breakfast, no lunch in their bag and sometimes they hadn't even eaten dinner the night before. This was also a KidsCan School and I saw the heart warming support KidsCan offered to these disadvantaged kids first hand and the difference the support made. Food to fuel the brain to learn and reach their potential. Shoes to cover their feet. Jackets to keep them warm and give them a chance to break the cycle of ongoing sickness. No one has a choice of which family or economical situation they're born into, and as children, they will have no control other this for quite some time.
I needed a purpose for completing this half marathon. It started off as a challenge given to me from my coaching clients. A personal goal, but it wasn't enough. After a month or so into training I needed something more purposeful and fulfilling to keep me going. Now this is my why. I want to complete the Queenstown Half Marathon in under 2 hours to raise at least $500 to donate to KidsCan so they can continue to support our disadvantaged Kiwi Kids to Do More, See More and Be More.
