My Name is Dave Hedges and I run Wild Geese Fitness Training in Magennis Place in Dublin 2. (http://wg-fit.com/wp/home/dave-hedges/)
Founded in 2004 Wild Geese Fitness now provides kettlebell, strength and conditioning and body movement training to athletes, sports enthusiasts, business professionals, HOPS service users and local residents.
I myself have now become a nationally renowned fitness trainer, qualified IKFF Master trainer, Certified Kettlebell trainer and National level kettlebell coach.
My coaching is based on the ethos of improving human efficiency and recognising the clear link between mental and physical health.
Over the last several years I've worked closely with the RehabCare HOPS centre for Mental Health which is a responsive and flexible wellness and recovery centre based in Westland Square, near Pearse Street. HOPS provides targeted mental health, social inclusion, wellness and recovery based programmes to 25 people.
Over the years I've seen the work that is done in the HOPS centre to benefit the service users, I've seen the improvements in the service users mental health.
This fundraising event is to raise money for this specific service so that the service users can continue to benefit from bringing in external instructors, fund cultural trips and provide resources in the centre itself.
On November 12th 2016, it is my intention to walk a full mile while swinging a 28kg kettlebell. That's 1,500 continuous steps while swinging a 28kg kettlebell (a total weight of 42 tonnes)
A feat that I have not seen anyone else complete, beating my previous challenge where I used a 24kg kettlebell.
This event is as challenging mentally as it is physically.
I'm setting a target of €6000 which will very much help HOPS in the delivery of its Community Inclusion Programme.
By providing a donation you will receive access to the WG Fit Facebook page where you can keep track on how the event develops, get some tips on how to improve your own health and fitness and hear from some of the event participants and supporters. You will also receive an update on the event itself, what happened, how your contribution helped and what other events are planned in the future.
