I first found out I had Melanoma Cancer 14 years ago when I was in my early thirties. I hoped that it had been discovered early enough, and I'd be ok, like the majority of Melanoma patients with an early diagnosis. Unfortunately I was one of those patients who relapsed and now I've been living with a Stage 4 diagnosis with the last three years. I've created this fundraiser because I'm going to jump out of a plane from 12,000ft up this summer.Jumping with me will be Luc who is also a stage 4 Melanoma patient so pretty unique to have us jump at same time!! The jump will take place in Belgium over Antwerp Harbour with Skydive Antwerp Hoevenen. Thinking about jumping out that door is frightening but nothing is as frightening as a diagnosis of Melanoma. Living with the uncertainty, treatment, scans, appointments. It's been a difficult few years, and although I'm doing really well, I could relapse again at any time, so I don't want to put this off any longer. I don't have a bucket list, it's a living with list. I want to do the jump, to challenge myself but also to show patients starting out on their treatment that there is hope. That hope is possible because of cancer research. Research which has improved survival chances for many advanced Melanoma patients. But much more needs to be done, not everyone is benefiting yet, Melanoma is not just skin cancer, it's invasive and can be deadly, much more research is needed to tackle this rapidly increasing cancer in Ireland. I'm inspired by the work of Breakthrough Cancer Research and wanted to support them by raising money for their Melanoma research program. Breakthrough Cancer Research sponsor PhD Student Liam who is developing a novel new gene therapy, that potentially would stop cancer hiding from your immune system, please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that are Melanoma Aware, and know about the work of Breakthrough Cancer Research, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.( Maybe you would be willing to hold an event to support my fundraiser)
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
