“I would not be here today if it wasn’t for your help” – Hannah

One in five women in Ireland experience domestic abuse. Women like Hannah. Day and night, these women need us. They need us to listen to them, and to support them and their children. And, crucially, just like Ellen did, each and every one of these women need to hear that we believe in them. Emotional, sexual, physical and financial abuse doesn’t stop. And because our 24 Hour National Freephone Helpline is now open ALL day EVERY day, we won’t stop either. Since our 24 Hour National Freephone Helpline extended to become a 24/7 service in January 2016, we now answer an average of 44 calls a day. By the end of the year we responded to 4,910 additional calls during the new night-time service, with many more contacts through our website.

It takes courage to call us. We have to be here for every woman who needs us, at any hour of the day or night. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have intensive training to deal with calls to the 24 Hour National Freephone Helpline, and we also provide in-depth one-to-one support visits and Court accompaniments.
