My name is Derek Mahon. I am a sports enthusiast and keen mountaineer having summited many local and international mountains including Mount Everest in May 2014. I climbed and summited Mount Everest having only taken up climbing less than 3 years previous!
Since then, I have been competing in triathlons, sportives and adventure races while also planning my next real challenge – summitting the 7 highest summits on the world’s 7 continents. Having climbed and summitted Mount Elbrus and Mount Everest Mount Kilimanjaro was the next planned big mountain. I left Ireland on the 28th of July to climb and summit Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa’s highest mountain, standing at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet! I summitted on the 2nd of August and witnessed the sunrise at 6:45 Tanzania time which was very special after a tough climb through the dark and cold. I returned to Ireland on the 6th and am now planning and training for Aconcagua in South America in February 2018. Be part of the adventure and support a great cause.
I've created this page because I am undertaking this climb in support of GROW and positive mental health.
I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of GROW in Ireland and wanted to support them by raising money. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about GROW in Ireland, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
