Writing is something that is so close and dear to my heart. As a child I always aspired to become an author, and was determined to cultivate my own voice and share my stories to the world. Over the past few years, I've concealed and suppressed my desire to write in order to prioritise the more "important" things in life. Little did I know that I had denied a part of my soul in the process. Now that a cloud no longer looms over my head, I have felt the growing urge to create more and more.
This is why I have committed to Story Factory's Pen to Paper challenge this year, in which $60,000 is needed to implement creative writing programs in 2 new schools. As Story Factory is dedicated to working with predominantly marginalised students, it means so much to me when they are given the platforms to share their own voices. To ignite, honour and re-ignite the creative child in all of us, I will be writing a short story with a minimum of 3000 words.
