Sydney Story Factory is an incredible and unique writing centre which targets young people from disadvantaged, Indigenous, and non-English speaking backgrounds. This makes a huge difference by empowering young people who need it the most in terms of literacy and education, but is also something which means a lot to me personally.
I'd always been passionate about writing, all throughout primary and high school, but without more experienced people as support, I often didn't know how to move forward. An organisation like this would have made a huge difference to me at the time. And whilst I often felt restricted and lacked confidence in the way writing was taught in high school, I've seen through my volunteer sessions at SSF emphasises creativity and enjoyment.
My goal for the Pen to Paper challenge is to finish the short story I'll be reading at National Young Writers' Festival and the nonfiction piece I'm submitting to Voiceworks.
