On the 10th of October this year the Redback’s Cricketing Community was rocked by tragedy when the most loved family in the clubs history was devastated by the loss of one of their own.
The D’Agostino family has dedicated a lifetime of voluntary service to the Glenmore Park Cricket Club. Vince (President), Adrian (Seniors Secretary), Robert (Committee Member), Jack, Chris and brother in law Jason have collectively amassed over 60 years of playing seasons along with over 30 years serving on the clubs Executive and Committee. No one could ever question their dedication, commitment and dying love for the Red and Black spider. Not a story goes by in which they are not a part, nor a success they have not contributed.
However, in October this year their lives changed forever, Kelly (daughter of Vince, sister of Adrian, Robert, Jack and Chris) and her husband Jason lost their beautiful daughter Violet Lee, who passed away at just seven weeks of age to SIDS. After finally being blessed with a daughter, you would not have met more happy and loving parents. In fact, the night of Violets passing Kelly sent a message out saying how much she loves being a mother, this was her new world. To be at the heart of such an inconceivably tragic loss has been the toughest test this and any family has to endure.
But in these toughest of time it has been the support of closest friends that has helped them, especially Kelly and Jason, to remain strong.
With Vince and Adrian who are both Life Members of this great club, plus the other boys lifelong Redback’s and Jason a more recent member of the club, a huge amount of support came from the Redback’s community which the family is forever grateful. It soon become apparent that the club could do more and the idea of a cricket game in honour, seemed a natural fit, this was welcomed with open arms by the family.
Kelly’s only wish since the loss of Violet was that she never be forgotten. It is the aim in launching this year’s match, the Violet Shield, that her memory will forever remain in our hearts but in linking with charity, in her name we can create a legacy that will raise funds to assist in the prevention and education of SIDS as well as providing bereavement support to families going through similar tragedy.
To assist us with our endeavours and to support the Violet Shield on Boxing Day we are seeking support from our families, friends, members, local businesses and the wider community. Any contribution you could make would we greatly appreciated and go to a fantastic cause. All funds raised from this event will support SIDS and Kids
