Firstly thank you for taking the time to view our page!
As many of you already know, but for those who don’t, my son Joshua was born with a very complex form of congenital heart disease (CHD) known as HLHS - which essentially means that our little miracle man was born with only half a heart! Unfortunately there is no cure for Joshua, or indeed any baby born with CHD. The only treatment available at this stage for Joshua is staged surgical palliation through a series of 3 open heart surgeries, Joshua has already had 2 of his 3 life saving surgeries. His future, and how much of it he has in front of him, is very much unknown at this stage. What we do know is that everyday with him is a blessing and we will be eternally grateful for each of them.
Joshua spent the first 19 weeks of life fighting hard at Lady Cliento Children's Hospital (Queensland Children's Hospital) it was during this time that we were introduced to Heartkids. Heartkids is a non government funded charity focused on improving the lives and futures of those affected by CHD, by providing high quality, caring support, information and advocacy and to give hope by driving world class research. For our family, our beautiful heartkids support team at LCCH, provided us with much needed shoulders to cry on and non-judgemental ears during our stay...as well as numerous cups of tea & cakes!
I am completely in awe of Joshua and all that he has been through & goes through each day. As a way of acknowledging & honoring his strength, courage & fighting spirit I have decided to run the Gold Coast Marathon in July in the hope of raising some much needed funds for Heartkids!!! I am so humbled that my 3 (amazingly crazy!) friends & Joshua's aussie aunt & uncles - Tara, Willie & Barry - have asked to run along side me for Joshua!
We have created this page because we want to make a difference in the lives of those affected by CHD. Inspired by the work of Heartkids we want to support them by raising money. We want to contribute, even if only in a small way, towards much needed research into CHD & in particular HLHS so that Joshua can live a full life into adulthood.
Please help us to help them by donating the cost of one of your morning cups of coffee or whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. If you are unable to donate then please speak about Joshua and his condition. The more people who have an awareness of CHD the greater the impact, the greater the push for research, for cures and better outcomes for those born with broken hearts just like Joshua...so please please please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family.
From Team Joshua thank you in advance for your generosity (and encouragement to complete the marathon!!!) it really does means a lot! xx
