At 53 years old Simon Holloway is about to embark on a journey that will fulfil one of his ‘bucket list’ items.
In April, Simon will take part in the Marathon Des Sables, a seven-day, 251 km ultramarathon, the distance of six regular marathons, in southern Morocco, in the Sahara Desert, known to competitors as ‘the hardest foot race on earth’.
He will be using the race to raise funds for Let's Beat Bowel Cancer, a Cabrini Health initiative.
This is an initiative close to Simon's heart, as family and friends have been affected by bowel cancer, including Simon's father.
Currently Let's Beat Bowel Cancer are raising funds for an organoid seeding machine.
This machine will help researchers at the Cabrini Monash Department of Surgery personalize patient treatment by predicting patient sensitivity to common treatment regimens using a three-dimensional tissue model of a patients' tumour (organoid).
