In October this year Leanne and Shelley as a part of the Australian Women's Wheelchair Basketball Team failed to qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Falling short to a strong Chinese team.
Devastated to see the last three years of their hard work and full-time training amount to nothing Leanne and Shelley lost their way, without a goal to work towards things weren't looking great.
Then they got together and remembered everything that basketball had given them aside from the chance to represent their country at the Paralympic games. Sport gave them both a place to belong, friendships to last a life time, a equal playing field, a chance to meet other people in similar situations as themselves and so much more.
Not going to the Rio Paralympic games means that Leanne and Shelley now have a unique opportunity to help other people find the same love for their sport.
In August Shelley and Leanne will be traveling throughout Cambodia and Vietnam, on bikes. The girls will ride over 600kms in 8 days to promote what people with disabilities can achieve. The ride will not be easy but Shelley and Leanne are looking forward to the challenge and also to help introduce wheelchair basketball to people with disabilities in Cambodia and Vietnam and develop their skills.
Leanne and Shelley are passionate about getting people involved in sport, and truely believe it changes lives.
But we need your help!
We plan to raise $10,000 and we couldn't do it without you, whatever amount you can contribute makes a difference and is changing people with disabilities lives!
All donations over $25 will receive a special gift from Leanne and Shelley!
