I have never run a full marathon before and this will be my first ever 42 km. Am I being over-confident? Nope, the past 10 years, I have been preparing myself to be blind. I am being optimistic, maybe I will retain a small amount of my vision. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a rare genetics eye disease, where we lose our vision progressively.
I had been to Melbourne before for friend's wedding, but because I was given the opportunity to do my PhD here, I have the opportunity to spend my 3 1/2 years here, which contributed tremendously in building my visual memory. This is something small I can do to give back: to raise awareness, not only for RP, but medical research for rare disease generally:
