Riney and Jamie and family and friends are getting up and going to raise awareness and funds for research for bowel cancer. All money raised under the 'Research4Riney' banner will go directly to bodies dedicated to bowel cancer research and support. (See below to choose which foundation you would like to donate to).
I was first diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer at the end of 2014, aged 28. I've been through two big operations, each time followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. I now have secondary bowel cancer, meaning it has spread to other parts of my body. I was part of an immunotherapy clinical trial in 2017 that unfortunately wasn't successful for me. I then recommenced IV chemotherapy, to keep the cancer from continuing to grow, which worked for a time, but had to discontinue when the treatment stopped being effective, as my cancer continued to grow and spread again. I then had internal radiation therapy on my liver, before recently commencing a new oral form of chemotherapy in the hope of holding further growth at bay.
Funding for research to find more effective treatments, and a cure, is at the heart of why we are doing this, for me and all the many others out there living with bowel cancer.
