My Story

I’ve had friends take their lives, others who can’t get out of bed because of depression and some who suffered anxiety induced panic attacks while trying to fall asleep.

At times over the last couple of years I’ve personally felt anxious and depressed to the point where it’s started to affect my habits, personality and ability to make healthy decisions. Out of these instances help was sort as the exception.

I want to help reduce the stigma around mental health and ensure those people who are struggling can find the strength to reach out. Our brains like every other organ in our bodies are susceptible to illness and just like any other sickness it’s not weakness to seek help, it’s the smart and right thing to do.

So that’s why I want to complete this ride; firstly to test my mind and secondly to help reduce the stigma around mental health and the problems associated with it.

Blob

We’ve decided to ride a long way, 480km in 8 days from the Dover to Devonport along the Tasmanian Trail and we’ve decided to support the charity beyondblue while doing it.

Mental Health issues affect us all and we all know someone or are that person who is struggling at one point or another. In Australia at any given time 3 million Aussies are living with anxiety or depression. The numbers are staggering and it’s something we’d like to help change. The fact that the leading cause of death for Aussies between 15 and 44 is suicide with 3000 people ending their lives in this country every year is something we find saddening as a completely preventable cause of death.

We have all personally been affected with people in our lives suffering from anxiety, depression and the loss of friends through suicide on too many occasions.

The more people that know the facts about mental health through the work of organisations like beyondblue, the more people we can help to live happy meaningful lives, so please spread the word by sharing our page with your family and friends.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to us and significantly more to all those people struggling to reach out for help.
