At The Story Factory, where I’m the director for Parramatta, we are on a mission to elevate the voices of children and young people who don’t have equal opportunities and representation but have equally interesting and important stories to tell. We work hard to stimulate their love of writing, creative and critical thinking, confidence to write and share ideas, sense of belonging to their local community and our wider society. Of course, we also strive to give them practical writing skills so that they continue to write beyond our workshops and engage in education and work in a more meaningful way.
I am supporting the Story Factory P2P challenge for a number of very selfish reasons and I encourage you to do the same:
1) There are a few moments in life that feed my soul like when young people who had very low self-esteem complete their best piece of writing to date and read it out with pride in front of an audience.
2) There is a huge demand for Story Factory workshops but we are only able to offer them to a limited number of schools and community organisations. Additional funds would help us extend this opportunity to more young people in Western Sydney.
3) I am not great at sport and I could never take part in fundraisers that involve physical activities. This is finally an opportunity for me to participate in something good I am less bad at.
I encourage you to sign up to the P2P challenge or if you don’t have the time to make a tax-deductible donation.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
