Let's talk numbers:
12,203 = the number of newly diagnosed cases of Lung Cancer in Australia in 2016
1 = My Friend's Mum
12,434 = the estimated number of newly diagnosed cases of Lung Cancer in Australia in 2017
1 = My Beautiful Aunt
8,839 = deaths in Australia caused by lung cancer in 2016
5,122 = male
1 = My Best Mate, my Dad.
The truth is that Lung Cancer is the 5th most commonly diagnosed cancer, of which the chances of living past 5 years is just 15% due to the fact that by the time it is detected it has often spread and is uncontrollable. My Dad had just 1 year.
My Dad spent his whole life working so hard and giving to so many charities over the years, some of which I never knew about until I had to go through his belongings. I learnt so much about him in the days following his death, and my heart swells with pride knowing how many lives he changed over the years.
Now it's my turn.
I will trek all 96km's of the Kokoda trail in August, my trip funded entirely By myself so that all funds raised here will go directly to The Lung Foundation of Australia to help fund research to cure this awful disease and support those who are suffering from it; because when you can't breathe, nothing else matters.
It will test me and I will find out what I'm made of, and I'd love your support to raise as much as I can.
With Love in my Heart
