In 2013 we teamed up with the PCFA to drive the awareness of men’s health across Australia – a cause dear to our hearts after the prostate cancer diagnosis affecting a few of our Hubbies. For those who aren’t aware:
- In Australia, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men
- More than 3000 men die of prostate cancer in Australia every year
- More men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer
With those statements in mind, we set out to start educating men and women across the country on prostate cancer and the need to get tested. Men over age 50 (or 40 with a family history of prostate cancer) should talk to their doctor about testing for prostate cancer using the PSA test and DRE as part of their annual health check-up.
Through our network of Hubbies, and also our Hire A Hubby Commercial Services division, we have been donating $1 from every invoice to continue our education and ongoing support of prostate cancer sufferers, as well as the general public.
We're aiming to raise funds for this amazing charity, but also to break down the taboo about talking about prostate cancer and encouraging people to get checked.
