This June (2017), I will begin a self funded hike through the Pryenees Mountain Range in Western Europe to raise money and awareness of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
All money raised will go to DEBRA, the organisation that helps families and individuals with EB.
EB is a rare disease whereby the skin blisters and peels at the slightest touch. People living with EB are commonly referred to as Butterfly Children because their skin is said to be as fragile as the butterfly wings. Living with EB has been likened to living with third degree burns. It is very painful, and sufferers must be bandaged every day with dressings to protect and medicate their wounds.
My journey will commence at the Atlantic Ocean in France and will follow the length of the Pyrenees until I complete my journey 800kms later at the Mediterranean sea.
During the walk there is a total height gain and loss of 49,000m - equivalent to climbing Mount Everest over 5 times (though not as dangerous or strenuous as the altitude is much lower!)
