One of the main reasons we started Camp Pack was a desire to help more people get outdoors and explore.
For us, getting outdoors has been so important in maintaining mental well being.
If we were going to do something as bold and brave as a 1,200km hike of the Heysen Trail in South Australia, we wanted to help make a difference to others.
Since we'll be focusing on the positive impact the outdoors can have on mental health, we immediately thought of Beyond Blue.
On our hike, we will be passing many beautiful towns in regional South Australia. While visiting we have an aim of bringing communities together for campfire chats and simple events to start discussion around mental health in these small communities.
In Australia, it's estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime.
In any one year, around 1 million Australian adults have depression, and over 2 million have anxiety.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44, with around 3,000 people dying by suicide every year.
