As most of you know, though some of you may not, my gorgeous husband Kieran was diagnosed with a grade III Oligodendroglioma, a serious form of brain cancer, on 5 June 2015. He underwent major surgery and an aggressive form of treatment. To date he has been doing remarkably well, with clear MRIs and I thank God everyday that I have the privilege of having this man by my side.
Sadly however, approximately 1600 brain cancers are diagnosed each year in Australia; that is roughly one person diagnosed with brain cancer every five hours and only two in ten people diagnosed with brain cancer will survive for five years post their initial diagnosis.
Kieran is my “why” – but this year, we have a little bit more that we need you to help us fight for. Kieran and I are due to welcome our first child into the world in August. We need Kieran to be here with us for the next 100 years to watch our 'Little Coconut' come into the world and grow into a remarkable person, just like his or her daddy. Kieran, and now our Little Coconut, are the reason why I have committed to fighting hard to raise as much money as I possibly can for Brain Cancer research. But I can't do it without you.
So what do I need from you? I need you to donate, any amount, big or small to help fight this horrendous disease. I promise you, every dollar makes a difference.
