It's that time of the year again, where I shout from the roof tops about the importance (and necessity) of raising much needed funds for brain cancer research.
As most of you know, though some of you may not, my gorgeous husband Kieran was diagnosed with a grade III Oligodendroglioma, a serious form of brain cancer, on 5 June 2015, being our 1 month wedding anniversary. He underwent major brain surgery, a 6 month course of oral chemotherapy and 33 days of proton radiation. For those of you that know him – you already know that he is a truly remarkable man (and Daddy to our gorgeous little boy Angus Kieran) and for those of you that have not met him yet, I hope one day you get the privilege.
Brain cancer kills more people under 40 than any other disease in Australia and yet it only receives less than 1% of the government's cancer research funding. Further, the survival rates for brain cancer have not changed in more than 20 years. It's for these reasons that the MHF needs people like you (and I) to dig as deep as we can and raise as much money as possible for research. While Kieran is a fighter and a bloody strong man, without the necessary funding for critical research, strength and character may one day not be enough.
Please dig deep, but know that any amount of money, big or small, makes a difference.
