Some of you might know that I am training for a triathlon in Sweden called Ironman Kalmar, scheduled for 20th of Aug. It consists of 3.8km swimming, 180km biking and 42km running. Although this goal started off with intentions personal to me, I’ve wanted to make it more than just that. Keeping that in mind, I’ve started a fundraising page to support an issue that is close to my heart, homelessness.
Every day after I wake up in the early hours to train, all it takes is one step outside for me to complain about the cold, the wind, the lack of sleep… all the things that many people on the streets don’t have a choice for. They aren’t facing those conditions temporarily “for an event” or “to train”. That’s their daily life and this bothers me a lot. I hope that with the momentum of my event preparation, I might be able to draw some attention to a local organisation doing some good in this space.
Most of you already know about 'The Big Issue', the fortnightly, independent magazine that is sold on the streets by homeless and disadvantaged people. The Big Issue magazine provides these men and women with an opportunity to earn an income and take steps towards making positive changes in their lives. Not to mention that the magazine itself is a great read as well! It's not just charity, but the ability to break out of a dangerous cycle and get control of life! If you think you might be able to give anything at all to support this cause, I encourage you to please do so. Needless to say, the contribution would be tax deductible.
To further support this, I will personally match $0.33 for every dollar donated.
If you think there is anyone else who might be willing to help out, I request you to kindly forward the link over to them. Each and every dollar is appreciated and nothing is too little.
