HeartKids has made a big impact on the lives of ours and many other Australians affected by Congenital Heart Disease. 6 babies are born every day across Australia with CHD, every week 4 precious lives are lost. It is the most common birth abnormality and takes the most lives of our babies and children.
We found out that our baby had heart problems at our 20 week scan. In October 2012 our daughter Amber was born with multiple defects of her heart (Complex Congenital Heart Disease). Over her short life Amber has had to endure 3 major heart surgeries (at 6 weeks, 13 weeks & 14 months old), many invasive procedures, tests and ongoing monitoring with the possibility of more surgeries to come. We almost lost our daughter during her last surgery (Dec/Xmas 2013) however true to her strong will she pulled through and her recovery over the next months went from strength to strength. However over the last month we have noticed Amber become slightly bluer which can't be explained by her medical team at PMH. So Amber will undergo another round of invasive testing (Cardiac Catheter, CT Scan & Echocardiogram) on 30th June '14 to find out possible causes and potentially more surgery depending on her results. Amber has such a fighting spirit and been through so much we have no doubt she will get over these next bumps in the road. HeartKids is a continued support to our family and many other families affected by CHD. They are dedicated to offering support, encouragement and hope to families of children with congenital or acquired heart defects whilst raising awareness and generating funds for children support programs, parent/patient comfort items, medical equipment and research into the causes of chronic heart disease in children. With HeartKids are the only charity in Australia dedicated to our children we are inspired by the work they do so we want to support them by raising money together with our affiliated football club the Mandurah Makos/Peel AFL Masters FC. It is also about us all coming together as a community to honour Amber and all the CHD Angels and Warriors still fighting their battles (and their families). Please help by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. Congenital Heart Disease is on the rise and raising awareness will have greater impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
