My Story

I've been volunteering as a tutor at Sydney Story Factory for around 2 years now and it is still usually one of the highlights of my week. They do amazing work with marginalised youth, and in particular, I never get tired of seeing the magical effect the place has on initially lonely, shy kids.
This year I'm tutoring in a course where a group of 12 to 15 years olds are aiming to write a 20,000ish word novella each.
As a bit of a twist on the usual format, the tutors are all aiming to do the same thing and the students get to critique our work.
So far I've got a bit over 4,000 words, so my goal is to have a rough full draft of 18-20,000 words by the end of the challenge.

Pen to Paper Challenge 2016

This September writers of all varieties are committing to putting their pens to paper to keep the creativity pumping at the Sydney Story Factory. They're challenging themselves to sit down and WRITE and asking friends and family to sponsor them.
Want to sign up someone UNDER 16? Please click on "Continue Reading" to see important info.
We've already blitzed our original target! Amazing! So we're going higher, with a big bold stretch (gulp) to $30,000. Will you help us get there? $30,000 will guarantee no fewer than 600 places in one of SSF's signature book making or robot bird poetry workshops for marginalised children. Thanks for your support!
Are you registering a young writer under 16? Call the page your child's name. Then all other details, including date of birth, need to be your own to create a fundraising page on Everyday Hero (you have to be over 16 to be able to fundraise). If you have any problems at all email debbie@sydneystoryfactory.org.au. Thanks again!
