My Story

My name is Leigh Wheatley. I am a 23 year Victoria Police member. I am currently a Detective Sergeant at Warrnambool Sexual Offences & Child Abuse Investigation Team. I have seen many of my fellow Victoria Police members, past and present, fight the fight against Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have suffered through many years of anxiety and depression myself and found that health and fitness was my number one road to recovery. I can think of no better way to help those in need than sharing my passion for health and fitness.

I have created this page on behalf of CrossFit Warrnambool, where I am employed as a CrossFit Coach, to commence the CrossFit Warrnambool

CrossFit pays its respects daily to members of the Armed Forces and first responders who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, in the form of named WODs (Workout of the Day). These WODS are created and named in memory of our fallen Heroes. To continue this CrossFit tradition, CrossFit Warrnambool is commencing a #fightingptsdvicpol campaign to support

Our first #fightingptsdvicpol campaign will kick off on Saturday December 7 at 10PM through to 10PM Sunday December 8 2019, when compete in the global 24-Hour AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) Challenge. 2 Teams consisting of 6 members each from CrossFit Warrnambool will be competing in this Challenge.

The 24-Hour AMRAP Challenge is a unique, global, real-time, online, 24-Hour team event. The event connects athletes and gyms from all over the world, simultaneously. The event is a challenge, the ultimate test of physical and mental perseverance, an amazing experience…for the athletes, the box, the community, the supporters…but it’s also a competition. At the end of the event, after 24hrs, the team with the highest total amount of completed reps is the champion.

I would love to be able to raise $1 per rep. If our team was to complete the bare minimum of 500 reps every hour for 24 hours, that would equate to $12,000. Might as well set the bar high. Let’s see how we go. Please get on board and support the CrossFit Warrnambool #fightingptsdvicpol campaign.

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Inc and wanted to support them by raising money. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Inc, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

We are here to assist D/A/Sgt Glenn Holland and help raise awareness for PTSD and mental health issues for our Victoria Police members

This section is where all the supporters can link in and help support the campaign by choosing an event to raise awareness for mental health issues for our VICPOL Members

Below you will see we have our media ambassadors Cassie Zervos from Channel 7 news, Neary Ty, Lana Murphy and Alexis Daish from Channel 9 news

They have over the years have been reporting via print media and now through commercial television of what our emergency services men and woman attend to everyday.

For the past 4 years we have been supporting Detective Acting Sergeant Glenn Holland to help raise awareness for PTSD and mental health issues for Victoria police members.

Everyday we report on what is happening across Victoria but only on what we see from outside the crime scene tape. We can't imagine what members have to deal with constantly inside the tape.

The supporters hope to raise funds and donations to be held in the Blue ribbon mental health fund and will assist the Blue ribbon foundation to continue its valuable work with proceeds to support the WHY (We Hear You) program for mental health services and initiatives for those who are or have served

If anyone needs assistance please use the support numbers on our website www.protectingtheprotectors.com
