My Story

'A State Ward.. '

I heard of an angel dying today and she was 'A State Ward'. I am up for the challenge of trying to finish a book by the end of September.

As a child I lived in poverty and violence, growing up in Inner City Suburbs like St Kilda, Carlton, Newtown, Dutton Park and Red Hill. One of the reason I was able to "Break the Cycle" was the endless examples I saw of humanity in my life. As an Inner City kids of a single.parent family we spent many a holiday in programs and places like the Sydney Story Factory. What fun we had jumping off roofs on to potato sacks, building billy carts and playing in clay. The banging of hammers, a belly of sandwiches and a lot of tang.
Never under estimate the impact you can have on a child, particularly a child who is fighting for survival every day. Time, sincere attention and unconditional love will sustain and help heal a broken child.

This is why I chose the Sydney Story Factory to tell my story and hopefully raise some moolla for them. There they are putting time into kids and providing a safe creative space.

Its a shit story. Its about child abuse and cover-ups and negligence and the grosses violations of Duty of Care. Its about suicides and violence and even a couple murders.
Like I said.. Its a shit story but its the only one I got! I heard an Angel died today - they would not speak her name ... Xx.

This September writers of all varieties are committing to putting their pens to paper to keep the creativity pumping at the Sydney Story Factory. They're challenging themselves to sit down and WRITE and asking friends and family to sponsor them.
Want to sign up someone UNDER 16? Please click on "Continue Reading" to see important info.
We've already blitzed our original target! Amazing! So we're going higher, with a big bold stretch (gulp) to $30,000. Will you help us get there? $30,000 will guarantee no fewer than 600 places in one of SSF's signature book making or robot bird poetry workshops for marginalised children. Thanks for your support!
Are you registering a young writer under 16? Call the page your child's name. Then all other details, including date of birth, need to be your own to create a fundraising page on Everyday Hero (you have to be over 16 to be able to fundraise). If you have any problems at all email debbie@sydneystoryfactory.org.au. Thanks again!
