Growing up and working on rivers and the adjacent land in my early teens led to myself still needing a connection back to the river when working in an urban area. Landcare in NSW was an easy progression which allowed me to help ease the burden of drought and hardship in the local community and connect individuals to services that may help them.
There are a number of issues affecting the NSW environment at the moment. The most serious and widespread is drought which is having disastrous consequences for local communities in NSW. Other problems we see are invasive weeds and animals and the lack of knowledge around environmental water and the management of rivers, creeks and impounds.
This is where Landcare come into play. Working on projects like the Daruka Riparian Restoration Project where the community came together to remove mature willows along the creek bed. This opened the area back up so native vegetation could start to grow creating habitats for our fish and local wildlife. Working on these types of projects creates community value that provides a space for families and locals to enjoy the natural habitats that surround them.
A major part of the work we do with our partners is to maintain and work with junior- landcarers, making sure local areas are available for generations to come. Please help with the protection of your local environment in NSW. Donate to help Landcare in NSW to help empower locals and bring communities together over this Christmas period. The more people that know about the projects, the greater the impact, so spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
