Have you ever wondered what your life might have been like if ‘the stork’ had delivered you to a different address? What if, instead of supportive parents and a stable education you spent your childhood in different foster homes and a new school every year? What if your fridge had been empty for weeks at a time? What if you didn’t feel safe in your own home? Would you be the same person you are today – or would you have needed a helping hand to remind you that challenges can be overcome and your self worth is not about what you own, but who you are and what you are capable of?
Founder and CEO of Life Changing Experiences Foundation, Jessica Brown, has spent the past 13 years helping teenage girls to change the course of their lives from one of trauma and despair to security, stability and self worth. She has witnessed first-hand what disadvantaged teenage girls have to go without - without an adult who cares for them, safety, food, clothing and even a roof over their head.
This month, we're claiming SIStember as our own and launching our 30 DAYS for 30 GIRLS campaign to raise awareness and funds for girls who ‘go without’ every day.
We're encouraging our supporters to ‘go without’ a daily comfort or habit for 30 days to sponsor 30 girls to attend a mentoring, education and crisis intervention program in Sydney and Melbourne next year.
For the 30 days of SIStember, Jess will be challenging herself and experiencing what it feels like to really want something and not be able to buy it…she will be attempting to ‘go without’ retail purchases of any kind for 30 days. In essence, she will be walking a month in another woman’s shoes (just not new ones!).
If you think you can 'go without' for 30 Days, then sign up with everydayhero and ask your friends and colleagues to support your cause by donating a gold coin for every day you go without your chosen comfort, indulgence or habit. Alternatively, you can sponsor Jess or one of the Life Changing Team ...
